Well, Baseball America has released their Top 100 Prospects for 2008.
Anyone on the list surprise you? I have to admit, I look at it from a fantasy baseball perspective, so I tend to favor guys who hit for power and average, and strikeout pitchers, as those are the big point items in my keeper league.
Based on that, I was surprised Steven Pearce was rated as low as he was (89). I think he'll be another Hunter Pence type player. Scouts see him as a stat hog rather than a complete player. Like Hunter Pence though, he just continues to hit at every level and will continue to do so in the majors.
I never understood that whole "stat hog" critique anyway. If a guy is putting up gaudy numbers, it's going to help his team win.
Nice to see Luke Hochevar continue his freefall down the prospect charts. Not that I don't like the kid, but who doesn't enjoy seeing Scott Boras poison the career of another talented kid? |
